For the past 28 years, Marintec China has played a role in bringing international industry players together in one location to share the latest technology news and valuable experiences at the exhibition, various technical seminars and other events. The scale of the show has grown increasingly larger, as well as the scope of products on display. This is not surprising since China is experiencing exponential market growth and industry players from all over the world are keen to find the key to mapping their China business strategy.

At Marintec China 2007, 1,158 exhibitors met 35,309 visitors from 87 countries and regions. This represents a 40% increase in the number of overseas visitors, demonstrating that there is indeed a need for both exhibitors and visitors to have a dedicated event at which they can exchange ideas and create business opportunities. Marintec China meets these needs perfectly, providing the ideal interactive platform.

Ever-Growing Market with Unlimited Opportunities

The fast pace of growth in China’s shipbuilding industry is irrefutable. In a 2007 industry review, figures reveal that China achieved an overwhelming record in terms of booked orders for new ships, at 103.6 million DWT, surpassing Korea’s 94.8 million DWT and becoming the world leader in this sector for the first time. In addition, China’s new ship tonnage and new ship order tonnage have soared to 18.93 million DWT and 98.45 million DWT, respectively, accounting for 23% and 42% of the world market share. China also recorded a 20.4% annual increase in TEUs in 2007, up to 26.15 million, from container throughput at the country’s ports. This accounts for 23% of China’s total throughput and was the second-largest total in the world. Meanwhile, the CSSC announced that its profit almost tripled in 2007, thanks to increased output and improved production efficiency, which helped net income rise from RMB5.2 billion to RMB14 billion. All this encouraging evidence boosted the confidence of both domestic and international industry players, and encouraged them to continuously invest effort and resources in the region. Once again, Marintec China provided the link between China and the rest of the world, creating opportunities for industry players to interact face-to-face.

The global industry of ship finance is greatly affected by today’s ever-changing economic climate. Furthermore, despite the risks involved, ship finance can be one of the most profitable ventures that a financial institution can undertake. With the correct finance structure and meticulously prepared loan and insurance documentation, many of these liabilities can be identified and accounted for.

In view of these issues, the organizing committee is inviting you to participate in this international summit on the future development opportunities for Asia ship finance & leasing. This event will serve as an excellent investment and marketing platform for shipowners, shipping trusts, agencies, operators, banks, financiers, lawyers, advisors and consultancies to explore & identify the shipping requirements of the Asia market, learning innovative financing structures and discussing investment opportunities.

Asia Ship Finance & Leasing Forum 2008, scheduled on December 9th-10th, 2008 at Renaissance Hotel in Shanghai, China, will be a significant event in Asia-Pacific ship finance sector.

With ten years of experience since 1998, Shiport China has grown into the largest maritime event in north China and won itself a good reputation in world marine industry. As the flagship maritime event in the region, Shiport China has always been the focus of attention.

Shiport China 2006 attracted 360 exhibitors on an exhibition area of 15,000 square meters and more than 13,000 visitors. 14 associated seminars and academic conferences on varied topics were also hosted alongside the main exhibition. The exhibition featured Chinese marine equipment manufacturers/suppliers and the number of exhibiting companies was larger than its previous editions.

The 6th edition of the biennial event Shiport China 2008 will be taking place from November 5-8, 2008 at the port, industrial, trade and tourism city of Dalian, one of the attractive cities for foreign investment in northeast China. We are expecting 500 high quality exhibitors and 15,000 visitors to attend the upcoming significant international maritime event.

World Shipping (China) Summit, the prominent yearly event for the World shipping circle jointly organized by China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company, Drewry Shipping Consultants Limited(UK), the Journal of Commerce(USA) and Dalian Municipal People’s Government, will be held alongside the exhibition in the same city of Dalian. More high quality ship owners/high profile delegates of shipping companies will pour into the exhibition site. A union of providers and buyers will be beneficial to both Shiport China exhibition and World Shipping (China) Summit!

The Shipping China Energy conferences are now well known for their willingness to tackle the hard issues facing the maritime sector in China. This annual shipping event offers participants a genuinely open debating platform for discussions.

Following the success of this year’s event, plans are already underway for the 2009 edition of the Shipping China Energy Conference.

China’s contribution to the current shipping boom was analyzed, discussed and debated at Shipping China Energy 2008 conference in Shanghai, now in it’s 5th year. Leading figures from both maritime and energy sectors heard presentations from key figures shaping China’s future energy activities and the commercial opportunities arising for the maritime industry.

Speaking at the opening of the Shipping China Energy Conference in Shanghai today, TradeWinds publisher Trond Lillestolen commented ‘China is the biggest consumer of oil after the US and also the biggest producer and consumer of coal. The country is thirsting for energy alternatives to coal and oil are now in focus, with 30 new nuclear energy plants expected to be commissioned in China over the next 15 years.’

The agenda for Shipping China Energy 2008 included sessions on the key issues of interest to shipping companies:

“The energy outlook for China – matching supply with demand

“China’s LNG strategy – supply contracts and the LNG fleet requirement

“The changing pattern of coal imports and exports

“The shipbuilding challenge: moving towards high tech ships

“Financing and the changing role of international capital providers

Delegates at this years conference were particularly fortunate to hear presentations from Mr Hu Weiping, Director, Bureau of Energy – National Development and Reform Commission, PRC and Professor Wang Jiacheng, Deputy Director, Academy of Macroeconomic Research, State Development and Reform Commission.

The conference attracted many of shipping’s leading personalities including Ulf Ryder, CEO of Stockholm listed Stena Bulk, Jean-Bernard Raoust, CEO of leading French shipbroker Barry Rogliano Salles and Italian Guiseppe Bottiglieri, President of Giuseppe Bottiglieri di Navigazione.

Social networking was also on the agenda with several high profile corporate receptions being organised for delegates including the spectacular ‘East meets West’ Golden Ocean Norwegian Seafood Evening, featuring specially imported Norwegian seafood prepared by Michelin starred chef Eivind Hellstrom and Singapore’s most internationally known chef, Justin Quek. Browse through the Event Gallery for images.

Shipping China Energy is a joint venture project, organised by leading maritime knowledge companies, TradeWinds and Mare Forum.

Where: Shanghai, China

When: April 23-24, 2009
