Conference overview

The inaugural European Dynamic Positioning Conference has been designed to address the key issues facing owners and operators of ships and rigs, ship and DP system designers, drilling contractors, class, equipment manufacturers and service providers in the development and operation of DP systems in the offshore oil field sector.

The European Dynamic Positioning Conference
The European Dynamic Positioning Conference has been developed in response to calls from the industry for a dedicated international DP event based in Europe and focusing on dynamic positioning in the offshore market sector.

Sessions in The European Dynamic Positioning Conference will feature speakers from users of DP, including shipowners, international organisations involved in developing DP guidelines, independent experts, equipment design firms and service providers, presenting papers which are kept to a 20 minute duration.

The timetable also provides for lively question and answer sessions between the panel and the floor. The proceedings are chaired by David Foxwell, editor of Offshore Support Journal, who draws upon many years of experience in the maritime industry to oversee the knowledgeable and informative discussions.

Following keen interest from the OSV industry in DP sessions at the now well established Annual OSJ Conference, and demand from the industry for a dedicated event focusing on this fast-growing and highly important sector of the market, the European Dynamic Positioning Conference will examine the wide range of issues facing DP operators in the oil field sector, from DP training, the current shortage of DP personnel, use of simulators as a training aid, DP for heavy-lift operations, incident reporting, statistics, FMEA, machinery systems, thrusters, trends/changes in satellite based services, and the role of acoustic and INS.

Other than an exceptional programme of presentations and debate, the key to a successful event is the networking and social opportunities it offers and here we do not intend to disappoint with a pre-conference drinks reception, networking lunch and coffee breaks throughout the event.

Where: London, England

When: July 7, 2009

The Annual Marine Propulsion Conference
Conference overview

The Annual Marine Propulsion Conference 2009 will really address the operational challenges facing ship operators today. Designed by industry for industry, the innovative event format makes it must attend for anyone whose business involves marine propulsion.

Following the resounding success of the inaugural event in 2008, the Annual Marine Propulsion Conference returns to London in 2009 with an exceptional programme of presentations and networking opportunities designed for industry professionals like you. We have listened to feedback from last year’s attendees and used our daily interaction with the market to put together two days of topical and original papers that directly address the operational challenges facing ship operators today – and that will be delivered by the speakers that you want to listen to.

The well-received conference format of last year will be continued. Each session panel over the two days will feature a paper from at least one world class shipowner/operators alongside experts from OEMs, government, industry representative bodies and academia. This formula – with the shipowner at the heart – provides for lively and stimulating debate on the practical challenges faced across a wide range of operational issues. The information and insights shared will have a direct relevance for your company and the decisions that you make in the future.

To satisfy demand the programme is complimented by excellent networking and social events, including pre-conference drinks reception, pre-dinner drinks, Gala Dinner, and refreshment breaks during the conference which are held within a dedicated exhibition space.

With over 250 delegates expected to attend, the second Annual Marine Propulsion Conference is the international must-attend event for anyone involved in this sector.

We look forward to warmly welcoming you, whether a past delegate or a new delegate, in London on 11-12 March 2009.

Overview

The only collaborative forum that shares the most recent findings and analysis on piracy to ensure sustainable operational procedures that will minimise your risk of attack

How to effectively coordinate with Naval Forces

Ensure early identification of suspect vessels and learn how discourage attack

Recognise and extract factual worldwide information available to reduce risk

Examine the most recent piracy trends and tactics

Ensure the safety of your staff, contracts, assets and reputation

Understand thelegal implicationswhen under attack. Minimise risk to hostages and discuss ransom negotiations

Discuss the challenges in evaluating available protection

Identify future training, contingency planning and insurance needs

Why Attend?

The protection of assets and crew from piracy and armed attacks is probably the single most pressing issue facing in the shipping industry. The problem is unlikely to ease; significant increases in commercial shipping are likely over the next few decades, while piracy remains closely linked to a shortage of onshore economic opportunities. There is a lot that individual shipping operators can do to maintain vigilance and to mitigate the risk of being a target of pirate attack.

Although, the long term permanent solution almost certainly resides in the hands of politicians, we need to use every opportunity to minimise risk in the short term.

The greater the level of coordination and cooperation between all stakeholders, the better the chance of protecting people and business interests. It is also vital that the industry collaborates to maintain momentum for finding permanent solutions.

Therefore this important conference has emerged from the urgent need to share with you the most effective tactics to:

Evaluate your risk in commercial and absolute terms

Identify and avoid threat during a passage

Transfer risk away from your vessels

Best prepare and protect your crew

Rapidly access support in the event of an incident

Maximise positive outcomes by taking correct action in the first few hours of a crisis

Establish an effective communication strategy with key stakeholders both internal and external

You’ll hear the latest military intelligence on pirate behaviour as well as gain up to the minute briefings on current international action.

Who you will meet at Combating Piracy 09

You’ll meet the leading worldwide shipping security experts from within the merchant marine community. Heads of Security, Safety, Quality and Environment as well as Risk and Crisis Directors from the shipping industry will attend. You’ll also have the chance to meet leading security firms, legal advisors, insurers and risk consultants to help your organisation drive your anti-piracy strategies forward.
